Welcome!
I am Mrs. McPherson, and I love science!
It all started with a love for animals and exploration...who knew that would be the road to scientific inquiry and education!
I grew up in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and moved around quite a bit from 7th-12th grades, living in various states on the east coast. My passion for science started in the middle of those years (around 9th grade) when I went to the Amazon rainforest and discovered the insane world of biodiversity there.
I ended up at the University of Florida studying Wildlife Ecology, and found myself back in Oregon soon after I graduated. I then spent years on the west coast studying reptiles, amphibians, and fish, followed by a few years teaching outdoor school. I have also coached volleyball for over 7 years.
In 2013, I went back to school to earn a Master's of Arts of Teaching. I love science, but I also love students and learning. I have finally found a place to combine all of these passions in the world of science education.
I believe every student benefits from making connections to the world around them, and that scientific inquiry is a valuable process for all people to use. I want my students to have fun, engage in the world around them, and connect real-world ideas to everything we do, whether we are learning about scientific ideas or learning about each other.
I love to live in a community so open to a variety of outdoor activities and opportunities, and I work during the summers on our family farm, raising cattle & pigs, and growing hay. I hope to inspire the local youth of Klamath to explore their nearby surroundings and also explore the global opportunities they have thanks to the connected world we live in through technology.
